We saw a red fox this morning. Our first sighting of a fox in the wild in Canada! Apparently they are widespread, and while I have seen a good number of coyotes, I’ve never spotted a fox. According to this Nova Scotia government website, foxes are the most widely distributed carnivores on earth. Now I feel embarrassed that I haven’t spotted more… I clearly haven’t been paying enough attention!
It was around 9.30 am on a sunny, fall morning. He ran across the field to the edge of the woods and sniffed around the big pine tree for a little while. The birds squawked. I went to get a closer look, but when he saw me coming he ran deeper into the woods. He was a little bedraggled. No bushy tail on this guy.
